Some 6.63 million tourists visited Galicia between January and October this year. The figure was published this Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE) and highlighted by the Director of Turismo de Galicia, Xosé Merelles, during a gala event in which he presented the Barbanza region as “an example of a sustainable tourism model.” Merelles noted that more than 6.63 million tourists visited Galicia during this period, generating 12.35 million overnight stays in tourism establishments across the region.

In this context, Merelles underscored the “quality and excellence” of tourism services as key elements of the Galicia destination, which “encourage a greater capacity to attract visitors” while also “contributing to the economic development of the territory.” He also recalled that average tourist spending in the second half of 2025 stands at €114.69, 5.8% higher than in the same period in 2024.

For his part, the Government Delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, emphasized that the Barbanza region “is an example of the sustainable tourism model promoted by the Government of Spain in Galicia.”

Blanco praised the joint commitment of public administrations and businesses to building a tourism destination “with identity, based on quality, respect for the environment and the ability to offer experiences 365 days a year.”

He also highlighted the efforts of the region's tourism sector, represented by more than 65 companies that will receive SICTED quality tourism diplomas, promoted by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism.

“This is the path forward: public-private cooperation, dialogue and joint work between administrations and the tourism sector to build an ecosystem that generates value and opportunities,” he concluded.
